Abstract

560,091. Electricity supply; transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 16, 1942, No. 9885. Convention date, July 19, 1941. [Class 38 (iv)] Transformer arrangements for the simultaneous adjustment of the relative magnitude and/or phase of voltages in two circuits 11, 12 comprise two main windings 14, 15 on one core and two interc¾nnected auxiliary windings 16, 17 on a second core, one or both of which are preferably interposed between the main windings, one main winding 15 being common to both circuits and the remaining main winding 14 being in series with one of the circuits only. The auxiliary windings are arranged so that one 16 is included in one of the circuits and the other 17 may be in the other circuit or in the common circuit. Simultaneously operated tap-changing means such as 19, 20 connect the primary winding 18 of the auxiliary transformer to variable portions of the common winding 15 on the main transformer or to a third winding 10 on that transformer, which may be a primary or tertiary winding, so that the voltage.in the auxiliary windings is variable. According to the connections or relative winding directions of the auxiliary windings the relation between 'the voltages of the two circuits 11, 12 may be simultaneously changed in the same or opposite senses. The auxiliary or main windings need not have the same number of turns. The energy source may be connected to a winding on the main transformer or to either of the circuits. The arrangement may be incorporated in a polyphase connection and the excitation of the auxiliary transformer may be arranged to produce opposing changes in phase in the two circuits as well as or instead of voltage changes. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 described also an arrangement in which the main and auxiliary windings were all on the same core. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
