Abstract
560,089. Tubular spars. KREMER, H. July 9, 1942, Nos. 9574, 10272 and 14102. [Class 20 (i)] [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXXIII] A tube which may be used as a spar for aircraft bodywork is built up of two or more longitudinal sections made of moulded plywood or other laminated material cemented together at flanged lapped or scarfed joints. The sections may have radial abutting flanges 16 directed inwardly or outwardly and with turned-up edges 17. In another form, the edges 18, Fig. 5, of one section are offset to form a lap joint with the chamfered edges of the other section. The joint may be scarfed as shown in Fig. 9, and may be reinforced by strips 24 cemented to the inner walls of the sections over the joints. Plywood stiffeners cemented to the walls may extend across the tube. The adhesive used is preferably a synthetic resin.
