Abstract
561,051. Ventilating cowls; collapsible moulds. BRITISH POWER BOAT CO., Ltd., and FINN, H. M. R. July 17, 1942, No. 9994. [Class 25] [Also in Group V] A ships' ventilating cowl is made by wrapping fabric strips helically on a collapsible core. The parts with less overlap due to the shape of the cowl may be reinforced with additional strips 27, 28 applied as shown in Fig. 5 and a final helical layer may be applied over the strips 27, 28. Each layer has a coating of synthetic resin glue, and an outer coating of paint is applied after' the glue has hardened. Metal beads 29, 31, Fig. 6, are applied to the edges and the smaller end has a reinforcing metal sleeve 30 with or without a sleeve of wood veneer. The core is divided longitudinally into two segmental portions and a central section comprising three parts 12, 13 and 14, Fig. 3. One of the segmental portions is divided along the line 20, and the core is held together by end discs 21, 22 attached by screws.
