Abstract

559,917. Rubber latex adhesives. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Aug. 18, 1942, No. 11554. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1941. [Class 70] An adhesive for uniting rubber and/or fabric &c. of high initial tackiness and rapidly setting is made by adding vulcanizing ingredients to rubber latex, which has been purified as by creaming, and destabilizing as by vigorous stirring, and/ or by ammonium nitrate &c. The adhesive may be stabilized by cooling below 50‹F. or by dimethylamine; its ammonia content may be reduced by adding formaldehyde. An example specifies twice-creamed latex, piperidinium pentamethylene dithiocarbamate, zinc benzothiazyl sulphide, ammonium nitrate, zinc oxide, and sulphur, the last two ingredients being dispersed in water as with gum arabic, bentonite, glue or soap; the creamed latex is heated to 100‹F. and the mixture stirred at high speed for about 30 mins. until the desired destabilization is attained.
