Abstract

231,988. Russell, R., and Broomfield, H. Feb. 26, 1924. Latex, treating; plastic compositions containing india-rubber &c. and glue &c.-A spongy, non- adhesive composition suitable for use in rubber mixings is made by mixing heated latex with a heated aqueous solution of glue, gelatine &c., and adding a coagulant for the latex and a hardener for the glue &c. According to an example, latex is heated to about 90' C., and 1-3 per cent of .880 ammonia is added. A solution of glue containing 85-60 per cent of glue is heated to 90‹ C. and ammonia is added. The solutions are mixed in equal or other proportions, the mixture is stirred and raised to 100‹ C., and a coagulant consisting of 5 parts of 40 per cent formaldehyde to 1 part of glacial acetic acid, is stirred in. The solid product is ground for addition to rubber. Vegetable or mineral oil or jelly or glycerine, treacle &c., may be added to either solulution, or to the mixture before coagulation. Fillers, wetted to prevent premature coagulation may be added to the glue solution, or to the mixed solutions.
