Abstract
172,711. Feldenheimer, W., Plowman, W. W., and Schidrowitz, P. Sept. 7, 1920. Plastic compositions containing india-rubber and clay; vulcanizing-compositions.-Clay is mixed with india-rubber in the presence of a water-soluble soap, or of ingredients which will produce such a soap, such as oleic acid and an alkali in the solid state, the alkali being added in excess if desired. The clay is purified by any process, preferably by peptisation, e.g. as described in Specifications 106,890 and 121,191, [both in Class 82 (ii), Washing granular &c.]. In an example, with clay prepared as described in Specification 121,191 is incorporated, 3 per cent anhydrous sodium carbonate, and 3 per cent sodium oliate, by grinding. A mixing of 57 parts rubber, 40 parts of this treated clay, and 3 parts sulphur is vulcanized in 45 min. at 40lb per sq. in. pressure. Increasing the proportion of soap, &c. increases the rate of curing.
