Abstract

559,645. Moulding concrete &c. slabs. AIREY, Sir E. June 22, 1942, No. 8540. [Class 87 (ii)] The palette boards or moulds 3 are fed in a continuous chain along stationary spaced tracks 2 by rollers 5 which frictionally engage either lateral flanges 3b on the boards or moulds, or carrier means which support the boards or moulds. The boards &c. 3 push one another over the tracks beneath a feed hopper 8 having a compressing roller 10 and a shoe or blade 12 which allows a slight vertical expansion of the compressed material. The roller 10 may move faster than the boards, thus smoothing the concrete &c. The side walls of the hopper in front of the roller 10 may diverge to allow expansion of the slab edges. Pendant spikes 19 score the surface of the concrete &c. to afford keys for the latter with other material. A knife 13, depressed by co-action of notches 6 in the mould bases with a weight-depressed lever 14, cuts the material into slabs. The moulds 3 may have grooved bases, a similarly grooved roller being disposed under the roller 10. The carrier means may include pins for locating wire mesh on the board to form a reinforcement in the slab. Expanded metal or rods also may be used as reinforcement. The boards may be moistened to cause the concrete to run and surround the reinforcement.
