Abstract
558,721. Abrasive wheels &c. NORTON GRINDING WHEEL CO., Ltd. Dec. 18, 1942, No. 18027. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1941. [Class 41] [Also in Group XXIII] Abrasive wheels or drills are formed by slowly rotating a metal blank comprising a surface of revolution about its axis in an electroplating bath, the blank being arranged with part of the surface disposed substantially horizontal and facing upwardly and granular abrasive material being deposited from time to time on this surface whilst nickel, chromium or other metal is electrolytically deposited about the granulus from a warm acid bath. In the construction shown the blank 92 to be coated to produce an abrasive wheel is attached to a shaft 87 which is slowly rotated by an electric motor carried by an arm 65 and operating through reduction gearing; diamonds from a container 95 are allowed to fall on to the surface of the blank, metal being deposited thereon from the electrolyte 93, the blank being the cathode and a rod 82 mounted in a clamp 68a the anode. The blanks are preferably sandblasted before coating.
