Abstract
493,108. Electrodeposition of metals. THOMAS, A. R. March 31, 1937, No. 9130. [Class 41] Extended objects are plated by application of a porous cover 1 surrounding a perforated cylinder 2 provided with blades 4 extending to an inner perforated cylinder 3 ; electrolyte is supplied under high pressure to a fixed perforated pipe 15 on which the cylinder 3 is mounted so as to cause rotation of the outer parts. The electrolyte passes through the cover 1 to the work and drains into a sump from which it is again pumped through the apparatus after filtering. The anode may consist of a number of metal tubes held together by a metal band and mounted in the supply system of the electrolyte. The member 1 may be partially enclosed within a fixed rubber sleeve to prevent projection of electrolyte except on the work. The apparatus may be provided with a handgrip in which a valve control is mounted. The parts 2, 3, 4 may be of chemically resistant nonconducting material. The parts 3, 4 may however in the case of the deposition of chromium or chromium alloys be of antimonial lead or in the deposition of nickel they may be of antimonial lead of or steel. The blades 4 if of steel are preferably lead-plated.
