Abstract

558,548. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Jan. 7, 1943, No. 305: [Class 112] In a rotary lock-stitch hook having the usual non- rotary thread-case holder, the bearing between the hook and the holder is a modified form of ball or roller bearing. The balls 6 are carried in spherical sockets in the wall of the thread-case holder 9 which acts as the spacing ring, and run in a race groove 5 on the inner surface of the rotary hook 1 and a race groove 7 in a floating ring 8. The balls are evenly spaced except as shown between the needle-loop detaining and confining shoulders 15, 16. To receive the balls, the wall of the thread case is divided in the plane of the ball centres and the parts are secured together by screws 13. Specifications 491,957 and 452,001 are referred to.
