700,306. Sewing-machines. NEWBY, H. (Wilcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Co.). Nov. 2, 1951, No. 25639/51. Class 112 In a lock-stitch sewing-machine comprising a hook-shaft 12 rotating at twice the speed of the main-shaft, a rotary hook 14 having an open sided raceway, and a bobbin case 19 floatingly supported in the raceway by a bobbin case hangar 20, the edge of the raceway ahead of the hook point 16 is cut back for more than 90 degrees of the periphery and the flange 31 of the bobbin case is also cut away to form an indentation 30 to enable the needle thread loop, to leave the bobbin relatively early in the sewing cycle. The part 43 of the bobbin case flange at the indentation 30 in conjunction with a sloping surface 44 on the bobbin case prevents the'hook point striking the needle. Rotation of the bobbin case is prevented by a projection 25 on the hangar engaging a notch 24 in the bobbin case. The bobbin thread 35 passes through a notch 36a, under a self-threading hook 36, over a land 41 and along the wall 33 of the notch 24. During sewing the bobbin case oscillates about a non-vertical axis on lands 38, 42. When the machine is not sewing a curved shoulder 40 on the bobbin case engages the hangar to support the bobbin case.
