558,389. Vehicle couplings. GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., SEVIOUR, L. W., and DRAPER, E. H. May 4, 1942, No. 5989. [Class 103 (v)] A coupling device, particularly for preventing excessive load when towing an aircraft on the ground, comprises two pivoted jaws 12, 13 which form a closed eye when brought together and are carried on the end of a spring plunger 5 in a tube 3, furnished with a coupling eye 4 at its closed end. Under normal load tall portions 14, 15 of the jaws engage the tube 3 to maintain the eye closed. Upon compression of the spring by a load greater than the normal the tail portions 14, 15 disengage the tube so that the eye between the jaws is opened.
