Abstract

558,352. Earth-excavating scrapers. LETOURNEAU, Inc., R. G. March 27, 1942, No. 4122. Convention date, April 1, 1941. [Class 68 (i)] In an earth-excavating and carrying scraper with a scraper bowl mounted for longitudinal movement between the parallel side-beams of a scraper frame, the bowl mounting comprises elongated carriages rigidly connected to each side of the bowl and running between upper and lower side beams with little vertical play so as to prevent vertical tilting of the carriages. As shown in a telescoping scraper, a frame 1, on wheels 2, has sides comprising spaced parallel beams 3 backed by side plates 4 which, at their forward ends, depend to form the sides of a stationary front bowl 5 ; a rear bowl 6 is slidably arranged so as to telescope into the bowl 5,a slidable tailgate forming the back of the bowl 6 and communicating its motion to the latter. The bowl 6 is supported by carriages each comprising a heavy bar 11 with rollers 12 which ride, with little vertical play, between two of the bars 3 ; the bars 11, with spacer blocks 13, are fixed to the rear of the sides of the bowl 6 by bolts 14. The spacer blocks 13 move in slots 15 in the plates 4 ; the sides of the bowl 6 are provided with forwardly extending bevelled wings 17 which, when the bowl 6 is in its rear position, close the forward ends of the slots 15 where they project into the bowl 5. Rear rollers 18, on vertical axes, maintain the transverse alignment of the bowl 6. Specification 491,252 is referred to.
