Abstract

868,859. Concrete surface finishing machines. TARMAC CIVIL ENGINEERING Ltd. Nov. 12, 1958 [May 8, 1958], No. 14698/58. Class 107 A concrete surface finishing machine comprises a frame for carrying levelling and finishing apparatus and a carriage assembly that comprises, on each side of the frame, at least two independent supports each having two ground- or rail-engaging wheels disposed one behind the other and spaced apart, the frame being mounted on the supports through flexible mountings. As shown in Fig. 1 the frame of a machine is in two parts, the front part being formed of side beams 18 and transverse beams 19 and the rear part of side beams 20 and transverse beams 21. Three wheeled bogies 11, 12 and 13 are provided on each side of the frame, the frame being mounted thereon by flexible rubber joints 22 at the mid points of the front and rear bogies and by flexible rubber joints 23 on the central bogies which provide supports for both the front and rear parts of the frame. Two screeds 24 (Fig. 3), are arranged side by side at an angle to give a V-formation. The screeds are supported from transverse beams 26 and 27, mounted one on each part of the frame and are vibrated by motors 32. An oscillating finishing plate 25 (Fig. 1), is supported at the rear of the screeds from transverse beam 35. The main power unit 37 mounted on the rear part of the frame may be used to drive the oscillating plate through a gearbox and to provide power for driving the front and central bogies through hydraulic motors 16 mounted on brackets 17.
