1311711 Road surface levelling and compacting DEMAG BAUMASOHINEN GmbH 23 June 1970 [28 June 1969] 30360/70 Heading E1G A towable machine 6 provided with pivoted draft arms 1 for compacting and smoothing a layer of road covering material 29 on a road surface comprises two elastically connected structures 9, 11, the lower one 11 being pivoted at 12 to the upper one at the rear of the machine and being provided with a vibrator and a plate 10 adapted to lie against the road material to act as a screed, the vibrator serving to oscillate the front end of the screed relative to the upper structure about the pivot axis, the masses of the structures 9, 11 and the elastic connection between them being such that the upper structure 9 remains substantially free of vibration when the machine is in use. As described the elastic connection of the screed plate 10 to the structure 9 is provided at points spaced across the machine by attaching the front end of the screed to a front panel 13 and passing bolts 17 through a facing plate 15 resilient blocks 16, oversize holes in a massive plate 14 on the structure 9 and further resilient blocks 16 into the panel 13. The screed 10 is vibrated by spaced feet 18 arranged across the width of the machine on a shaft 20 driven from a hydraulic motor 22 and bearing eccentrically mounted weights 19. A material distributing body 28 is supported by brackets 27 from rods 26 which are vertically movable via linkages 38 operated by handwheels 37 through holes in brackets 25 at opposite margins of the machine. The vertical position of the structure 9 is adjustable by altering the support points of pivots 2 on the tractor unit and adjusting turnbuckles 8. If the material supplied contains tar the space 24 is heated. The machine is depicted in Fig. 2 (not shown) as comprising two joined similar left and right hand subunits.
