Abstract

558,131. Centrifugal moulding-machines. KELM, G. R. Oct. 1, 1941, No. 12695. [Class 87 (ii)] Concerns moulding machines of the type wherein the moulds rotate about two intersecting axes, whereby a substance contained within the moulds, e.g. latex, is spread over the interior thereof. The two moulds 21 are rotated as a whole on a shaft 10 and are rotated also about the axis of their stems 21a. The holder for the moulds comprises a block 14 divided into two sections which are clamped together and to the shaft 10 by bolts 15. In the block sections there are recessed bores 16 which form bearing surfaces for the heads 17a of mould-holders 17 each having a bore 19 into which the stem 21a fits with a bayonet-slot connection, the stem bedding on a spring x. Each mould-holder has arms 17c one of which, on each rotation of the shaft 10, strikes a projection 25 on a collar 26 adjustably clamped to a stationary sleeve surrounding the shaft 10, and rotates its mould-holder through 90 degrees. During the intervals between engagements of the arms 17c with the projection 25, the mould-holder is held stationary by frictional engagement between a flange 26a on the collar 26 and a square part 17d of the mould-holder; during the rotation through 90 degrees, the leading corner of the square is received in a recess 26b in the collar 26, as shown in Fig. 3. The chamber 2 in which the moulds rotate is about half-filled with water, and has a steam inlet and water outlet.
