Abstract

558,009. Quinoline derivatives. COATES, H., HEILBRON, I. M., HEY, D. H., LAMBERT, A., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 8, 1942, No. 6209. [Class 2 (iii)] Pyridylquinolines in which the pyridyl is attached to the phenyl ring, which are useful as spasmolytic agents, are prepared by reaction of corresponding diazotised aminoquinoline which may contain alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, or nitro groups attached to the phenyl ring, with an excess of pyridine or of a pyridine derivative which is liquid at the reaction temperature, e.g. α-methyl- and α-chloropyridines and esters of pyridine carboxylic acids with the lower aliphatic alcohols. Examples give the preparation of isomeric 5- and 8-pyridylquinolines from diazotized 5- and 8-aminoquinoline and pyridine, the picrates of 6-methoxy-8-α-, -#-, and -γ-pyridylquinolines and the free bases, isomeric 8-methoxy-6-pyridylquinolines, and isomeric 8-bromo-6-pyridylquinolines. 6-Amino-8-bromoquinoline is prepared by reduction of 6-nitro-8-bromoquinoline. Specification 267,169, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to.
