Abstract

1,211,078. Water-soluble basic monoazo dyes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Jan., 1968 [16 Jan., 1967], No. 2259/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises water-soluble monoazo dyes, free from SO 3 H and COOH groups, of formula wherein P is a NO 2 , CN, optionally substituted sulphonamido or alkoxycarbonyl group or a Cl atom, Q is Cl when P is Cl but otherwise is H, R is NO 2 or H when P is NO 2 or sulphonamido but otherwise is H, the nucleus B may be further substituted by a halogen atom or alkyl, alkoxy or acylamino group, R 1 is CH 3 or C 2 H 5 and Z is an anion. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazotized 4-nitroaniline with an N-(2- anilino - ethyl) - pyridinium compound or with an N-2-haloethyl-aniline, the halogen atom being subsequently replaced by reaction with pyridine. The dyes give red to violet shades on polyacrylonitrile fibres.
