The invention comprises monoazo dyes of the general formula wherein A is H, CH 3 , C 1 -C 4 alkoxy, Cl, Br, NO 2 , CN, CF 3 , R-CO-, R-SO 2 -, R 1 R 2 NSO 2 - or C 1 -C 4 alkyl-O-CO- with the proviso that when B is H, CH 3 or C 1 -C 4 alkoxy, then A is Cl, Br, NO 2 , CN, CF 3 , R-CO-, R-SO 2 -, R 1 R 2 NSO 2 - or C 1 -C 4 alkyl-O-CO-, R is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, CF 3 , cyclohexyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, or phenyl optionally substituted by Cl, Br, NO 2 or C 1 -C 4 alkyl; R 1 is H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, or 2- hydroxyethyl; R 2 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, benzyl or phenyl; B is H, CH 3 , C 1 -C 4 alkoxy, Cl, Br, NO 2 or CN with the proviso that when A is H, CH 3 or C 1 -C 4 alkoxy then B is Cl, Br, NO 2 or CN; X is H Cl, Br, CH 3 , C 2 H 5 or C 1 -C 4 alkoxy with the proviso that when Y is NH 2 then X is Cl, Br, CH 3 , C 2 H 5 or C 1 -C 4 alkoxy; Y is NH 2 , H, Cl, Br, CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , C 1 -C 4 alkoxy, QCONH- or QSO 2 NH-, wherein Q is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, or phenyl optionally substituted by Cl, Br, NO 2 or C 1 -C 4 alkyl; R 3 is H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, 2-cyanoethyl or C 1 -C 4 alkoxyalkyl, R 4 is C 2 -C 4 alkylene; NR 5 is #NR 6 R 7 or NR 6 R 7 R 8 Z- wherein R 6 , R 7 and R 8 are C 1 -C 4 alkyl, 2-hydroxyethyl or benzyl and Z- is an anion. They are prepared by diazotization and coupling. They are used to dye acid modified acrylic fibres in orange, red-orange, red, and bluish-red shades.
