1331261 Azo dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [23 March 1970] 13868/70 Heading C4P Novel water-soluble azo dyes, free from fibrereactive groups, containing at least one -O.SO 3 H or -SO 3 H group and at least one group of formula wherein T<SP>1</SP> is an optionally substituted alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical, or an -OH, -CN, -COR<SP>1</SP> or -CONR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP> group, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> being independently H or an optionally substituted alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical and T<SP>2</SP> is H, an optionally substituted alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical or an -OH, - COOR<SP>1</SP>, -COR<SP>1</SP> or -CONR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP> group are prepared by coupling a suitably substituted diazonium compound with a 4-substituted-6- hydroxy-2-pyridone. The dyes may be used to colour synthetic polyamide materials in yellow and orange shades. The preparation of mono- and dis-azo dyes is described in examples.
