Abstract

1,204,361. Water-soluble basic monoazo dyes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Jan., 1968 [16 Jan., 1967], No. 2258/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises water-soluble monoazo dyes free from SO 3 H or COOH groups of formula wherein R 1 is H, Cl, Br or CN, nucleus B may be substituted by halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or acylamino, R 2 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl which may be substituted and Z is an anion. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazotized 2 - bromo - 4 - nitro - aniline with an N - [2 - anilino ethyl]-pyridinium compound or with an N-2-haloethylaniline, the halogen atom being subsequently replaced by reaction with pyridine. The dyes give red, brown or violet shades on polyacrylonitrile fibres.
