Abstract

1,210,821. Water soluble basic monoazo dyes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Jan., 1968 [16 Jan., 1967], No. 2261/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises water-soluble monoazo dyes, free from SO 3 H and COOH groups, of formula wherein R is an aryl or aromatic heterocyclic group which may be substituted, nucleus B may be substituted by halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or acylamino, R 1 is C 1-4 alkyl, R 2 is H or OH and Z is an anion. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazotized amine RNH 2 with a component of formula wherein Y is pyridinium or a halogen atom which is subsequently replaced by reaction with pyridine. The dyes give orange and red to blue shades on polyacrylonitrile fibres.
