557,976. Diphenyolpropane. DISTILLERS CO., Ltd., STANLEY, H. M., MORGAN, J. D., and PRITCHARD, W. L. June 5, 1942, No. 7702. [Class 2 (iii)] Diphenylolpropane is made by condensing phenol and acetone in presence of sulphuric acid and of a halogenated hydrocarbon such as carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, dichloroethylene, ethylidene dibromide or chlorobenzene. The temperature may be maintained initially below 20‹ C. and afterwards allowed to rise to 40‹ C. Specifications 395,732 and 428,944 are referred to.
