Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0980038/C2/1> wherein one X is nitro and the other is alkoxy. The compounds are made by brominating a 1 - hydroxy - 4 - nitro - anthraquinone containing one nitro and one alkoxy group in the 5- and 8-positions and which optionally contains a sulphonic acid group in the 2-position. Examples are given in which the alkoxy group is methoxy. German Specifications 102,532 and 1,134,087 are referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0980038/C4-C5/1> wherein one X is nitro and the other is alkoxy. The compounds are made by brominating a 1 - hydroxy - 4 - nitro - anthraquinone containing one nitro and one alkoxy group in the 5- and 8-positions and which optionally contains a sulphonic acid group in 2-position. Examples are given in which the alkoxy group is methoxy. German Specifications 102,532 and 1,134,087 are referred to.
