[Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group VI] Aqueous emulsions having insecticidal properties include compounds of the formula in which X is chlorine or bromine, R 1 is an organic radical having at least 3 carbon atoms. and R 2 is an organic radical having at least 50 carbon atoms. 4:4<SP>1</SP>-Dichlorodiphenyltrichlorethane and the corresponding dibromo compound, which may be prepared by condensing chloral with chloro-or bromo-benzene with the aid of sulphuric acid are mentioned.
