557,975. Apparatus for heating air or other fluids. THOMLINSON, F. June 5, 1942, No. 7655. [Class 137] [Also in Group XI] In apparatus for heating air or other fluid, for example water, of the kind comprising a rotary impeller having blades with which heating means are incorporated, the heating means are spaced from the blades, and are arranged side by side so that the fluid is raised progressively in temperature by each heating means during rotation. The impeller, Fig. 2, comprises flat blades 19 on which are mounted strips 20 of resistance material insulated by washers 22, and spaced from the blades. The shaft 11 is caused to rotate by an electric motor and current is supplied to the strips by slip rings 16. In Fig. 6, the blades 30 are of helical form, and helical resistance windings 33 are insulated by material 32, and enclosed in metal casings, spacing blocks 35 allowing the fluid to circulate freely round the heating elements. The Provisional Specification describes also gas or oil heated blades or radiants.
