Abstract

557,914. Crystallizing spray evaporators. REAVELL, J. A. May 7, 1942. No. 6150. [Class 32] Crystals are obtained from industrial liquors by heating the liquor, passing it to an atomising or spraying device arranged in the upper part of a crystallising chamber the lower part of which is of convergent or coned formation and passing a gaseous medium in the same direction as the spray so that crystals are formed and carried with the residual liquor downwardly to the bottom of the chamber from which the crystals and liquor are discharged; the liquor may be recirculated. The temperature of the gaseous medium is controlled so that the liquor passes rapidly from the unsaturated state through the metastable state to the saturated state. The liquor preheated in coil d is passed through a pipe e to a rotating sprayer b situated at the top of a chamber a Gaseous medium is drawn through orifices g by means of a fan i ; the liquor and crystals are drawn off through a pipe in the coned base of the chamber a.
