Abstract
557,345. Moulding buttons, knobs &,c. by pressure. GOODE, J. H. May 11, 1942, No. 9989/43. [Class 87 (ii)] In apparatus of the kind in which charges of plastic material are compressed between dies in series in a bore, the bore is lined with an elastic or longitudinally - split sleeve, which may be compressed within the bore to give the mould the required internal form. When the sleeve is split it will form a vent for air and surplus material. As shown, the split sleeve 5 is tapered from top to bottom, and may be removed with the dies and moulded articles. Dies B, E and G form hole-less buttons. Dies C form an instrument knob, a threaded hole being moulded in the knob by a screw cc which is later removed from the knob by means of its slotted head ; a small downwardly-tapered pin ccc forms an ejector for the knob and screw. Dies D form an instrument knob in which is partly embedded a headed screw-threaded pin dd. Dies F form a button having two holes. A chamber 3 receives a heating element. The edges of the moulded articles may be shaped by the sleeve, by the dies or by separate pieces. In making rings, a solid core may be positioned centrally within the sleeve.
