Abstract

698,928. Casting composite wheels. MEJLSO., G. M., and HEIMANN, E. S. March 6, 1952 [Jan. 28, 1952], No. 2259/52. Class 83 (i). [Also in Group V] A toy flywheel is made by injecting molten metal or plastic material into the aligned central holes of assembled sheet metal discs and moulding it in place with end enlargements. The discs 1 may be placed in a recess 4 of a lower die 3 having a recess 6 in line with the holes 2 but of larger diameter. The upper die 7 has a similar coaxial recess 8 which may have ribs R to mould pinion teeth on the upper enlargement. The lower die has an ejector 11, and the upper a gate 9, formed with a separate piece 19 as in Specification 698,721. Both dies may have pins 13 to mould axial holes in the enlargements. The parts may be arranged so that the cast material forms a thin skin over the uppermost disc and, if desired, around the periphery of the discs.
