Abstract
555,923. Relief valves. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 20, 1942, No. 10053. Convention date, July 22, 1941. [Class 135] A spring-loaded relief valve has a dashpot formed between the casing and the valve member to damp movements of the valve member. The valve member 25 has a smaller diameter part 29 slidably engaging a bore 30 and a larger diameter part 31 loosely engaging a bore 32 to provide an annular dashpot chamber 37 connected to the outlet chamber 21 by a narrow bore 38. The smaller diameter part is formed with spaced upper and lower parts connected by internal radial ribs to provide a discharge port 35. The valve is adjustably loaded by a spring 26 and is retained in the bores 30, 32 by a retainer ring 33 provided with ports 34 and screwed into the casing. The casing is completed by a ring 21b with a threaded inlet aperture 24 secured by bolts 21a to a flange 20 on the main part of the casing.
