555,888. Making runners for blowers &c. SCINTILLA, Ltd. June 23, 1942, No. 8605. Convention date, Oct. 25, 1941. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a method of making runners for blowers and the like, a disc 2 mountable on a shaft 1 is provided with chamfered slots 12, the blades 3 being then drawn through the slots and welded, Fig. 4, round the boundaries of the slots. If the blade channels 4 are of the closed type as shown on the left of Fig. 1, the blades are provided with ears 13, Fig. 4, which extend into chamfered milled slots in the closing disc 15 and are welded at 14. The completed runner may be finally heat treated. In a modification a runner of the closed type has curved vanes fitting in correspondingly curved slots and the cover discs have holes to receive welding metal which secures the discs. The disc 2 may taper towards its periphery.
