Abstract
555,432. Automatic control systems. ROTHELI, R. March 26, 1942, No. 4030. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1941. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] The wear of the working edge F of a grinding wheel W is detected by a photo-electric device comprising a lamp Q directing a beam of light L over the edge F and a cell Z in the projection of the beam adapted to detect changes of beam intensity due to wear of the edge. Lenses and a diaphragm with a slit may be used in the beam. The cell may be connected through an amplifier to a signalling or indicating device or to means adapted automatically to adjust the position of the grinding wheel to compensate for its wear.
