Abstract
555,215. Mixing molten material. GERBER. J. S., and REDFERN, W. D. Nov. 17, 1941, No. 9111/43. Divided out of 554,229. [Class 86] [Also in Group XI] Molten material in a furnace or mixer which, if heated, is not heated electrically, is stirred by the interaction of an alternating current passed through it between electrodes 22, and a magnetic field created by passing a synchronous alternating current through flat coils 8, 9 below the material. The intensity of the field may be increased by cores 17, 18 associated with the steel shell 6. The stirring effect may be varied by controlling the strength or phase relationship of the currents.
