Abstract
554,754. Electric heating. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO.. Ltd., BRECKNOCK, H., WIDNALL, F., and LOWSON. J. C. Dec. 12, 1941, Nos. 16067/41 and 2034/42. [Classes 39 (iii) and 75 (iii)] Apparatus for heating by radiation, e.g. for baking enamels, comprises a row of reflectors 1 each surrounding a heat-emitting source such as an electric lamp. The reflectors may have a surface of anodized aluminium or gold, capable of maximum reflection of infra-red rays. The sources are supported by spaced rods 3, 4 secured to U-shaped brackets 5 supporting the reflectors, the brackets having cross members 6 carrying the lamp holders. The members 3, 4 are secured at their ends to U-shaped members 8 which may be pivoted at 10 to corresponding points of an adjacent row of heaters. The points 10 lie on a line passing through or in front of the rims of the reflectors. Two or more units may be articulated together in a wide range of relative angular positions for radiant heating of objects of different shape. The reflectors in adjacent rows may be so arranged that when articulated together they are in staggered relationship. In order to hold the units in their adjusted positions, coupling members 11 perforated at 14 may be employed, which, in combination with two pairs of unevenly spaced holes 15, 15<SP>1</SP> in the members 8, enable a vernier adjustment to be obtained.
