[Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXII, XVI and XXXVI] Strip metal, particularly annealed or annealed and mechanically tempered cold rolled steel, is passed from an uncoiling device 2 through rollers 4 to a looping pit 7 where strip accumulates in a substantially untensioned condition that permits of lateral guiding by such plates or rollers 10 that mount idle offset rolls 9 delivering to interconnected rolls 11 round which the strip passes as shown to give wide contact area and permit control by hydraulic, mechanical, or electrical braking of the rolls without marring the strip. On the other side of the processing plant X driven rolls 12, 14 round and through which the strip passes as shown provide the necessary drag for passing the strip through the entire handling means. The processing may be of any nature and for example as a series of units for scrubbing and chemical cleaning. A second uncoiler 5 at a lower level provides for the attachment of a new strip to the end of previous one to secure continuous operation.
