Abstract
548,639. Straightening strips or like sections. NORTON & CO., Ltd., Sir J. F., and NORTON, D. G. Oct. 28, 1941, No. 13869. [Class 83 (iv)] A machine for flattening or straightening iron, steel, non-ferrous or alloy strip metal &c. of flat, rectangular, round or irregular section comprises a series of rollers disposed one in advance of the other above and below the path of the strip &c. so that the strip &c. is bent successively upwards and downwards, the rollers gradually increasing or decreasing in diameter and being spaced respectively at gradually increasing or at gradually decreasing distance apart. The variation in diameter of the rollers distributes the flexing. As shown the rollers a, c through which the strip b passes prior to its conveyance by rolls d to shearing or cropping mechanism or a coiler, have diminishing diameters and are arranged at diminishing pitches. The peripheral velocities of all the rollers may be uniform or be arranged to increase gradually towards the delivery end of the machine.
