Abstract

554,149. Cutting flat or tubular material. PLUMPTON, F. E. March 9, 1942, No. 3078. [Classes 60 and 145 (ii)] A portable machine for cutting tubes longitudinally, sheet metal or wood comprises a carriage fitted with adjustable wheels and carrying an adjustable frame on which an abrading disc or saw and a power unit are mounted on transverse parallel shafts. The carriage comprises longitudinals 1 fitted with wheels 3 and connected by transverse members 4, 5 the outer ends of which are set at 45 degrees. The disc or saw 6 is driven by a pneumaticallyoperated power unit 15 which is pivotally connected at 14 to the carriage at one end and at the other is carried by a vertically adjustable member 11 sliding in a fixed member 10 forming part of the frame 4. The supply pipe 19 passes to a control valve 22 and thence to the power unit, the part 26 forming a handle for the machine. The members 1 can be spaced apart at varying distances for pipes of varying sizes and can be secured to the members 4, 5 with the wheels 3 vertical for cutting sheet metal or horizontal for cutting wood.
