Abstract

553,846. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. (Western Electric Co., Inc.). March 28, 1942, No. 4167. [Class 39 (i)] Electron discharge tubes particularly for use at ultra high frequencies, comprise an annular plane cathode 12, a control electrode 23 parallel to and co-axial with the cathode, a linear leading-in conductor 25 for the control electrode extending co-axially through the cathode structure, and a metal shield 14 electrically integral with the cathode surrounding the lead 25. The lead 25 may constitute the inner element of a co-axial transmission line, the outer element of which is a cylinder 26 connected to a dished metal shield 17 ; tuning is effected by a sliding disc 27. The cathode structure comprises the disc 12, coated with electron emission material, a supporting member 16 sealed through the envelope 10, the cylindrical portion 14 surrounding the conductor 25, and a heating element 18. The device includes also a cylindrical accelerating electrode 28, and a cup shaped anode 11. The control electrode 23 consists of wires radiating from a hub 24. Specification 592,667 is referred to.
