Abstract
553,819. Making cased collapsable tubes. BELTS & CO., Ltd., and DUNN, E. STATHER-. March 11, 1942, No. 3199. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] A collapsable tube is made by separately rolling, or otherwise making, three layers of tin, lead, and tin, punching compound discs from the superposed layers and then extruding. The scrap is easily separated into its constituents for re-use. The inner and outer tin layers, and, if desired, the lead may be alloyed with other metals to ensure the same rate of extrusion and improve ductility, rigidity, &c. To reduce the unplated end-portion, the discs 1 may be cut slightly larger than the extrusion-die cavity 3 and be placed in an additional recess 2 in the die of the same diameter as the discs. The punch 6 then produces a plated extruded tube with a thick and partly plated end ring, which is cut off.
