Abstract

553,645. Machines for making ropes. MACKIE & SONS, Ltd., J., and MACKIE, J. P. Jan. 29. 1942, No. 1256. [Class 109] [Also in Group XXX] In a machine for laying strands to form a rope in which the strands are delivered from bobbins 11, 12 in suspended cradles 14, 15 in a dyer 18 and from a bobbin 10 on a stationary support 13, drag capstans 21 are provided one for each bobbin to prevent the twist applied by the flyer from running back into the strands on the bobbins. The strands are led from the drag capstans along the arms 19 of the flyer and out through its end bearing except in the case of the strand from the last bobbin which passes out directly from its capstan through the end bearing. Each drag capstan consists of a drum with a disc 22 which is drawn down against friction cups 23 supplied with lubricant. Each drag capstan has a spindle 25 with a spring 26 acting upon it to draw the disc 22 against the cups 23, the spring tension being adjustable. Specification 553,667 is referred to.
