Abstract

552,928. Screw piles. BRAITHWAITE & CO. ENGINEERS, Ltd., and WILSON, G. Oct. 28, 1941, No. 13840. [Class 68 (ii)] A screw-head 10 in a concrete pile is driven by means of a tubular removable mandrel 16 secured by detachable bolts 19. A permanent concrete pile or cylinder is placed or fabricated within the mandrel or a thin metal sheath . In moulding such a pile or cylinder is pivoted prior to withdrawal of the mandrel, the sheath being left in place. For a cylinder an outer and an inner sheath are employed. The concrete may be cast around a reinforcement. The connection between the mandrel or the sheath and the screw head is made watertight. If jetting should be necessary the nose-piece 14 may be replaced by that described in Specification 552,929.
