Abstract

552,906. Magazine gramophones. PAILLARD & CIE. SOC. ANON., E. Oct. 27, 1941, No. 13772. Convention date, Nov. 23, 1940. [Class 40 (ii)] Relates to magazine gramophones in which a stack of records is supported above the turntable and one record is dropped at a time by the angular reciprocation of two arms 4, 7 cooperating with the edges of the records. It has been proposed to arrange the upper arm 7 to be wedged up if the normal spacing between the two arms is less than the thickness of the lowermost record. If the record next above is a large one, the whole stack above is also lifted by the arm until this arm comes over the lowermost record and can move in over it. This action causes considerable friction tending to wear the edges of the records. According to the invention, wear is prevented by making the arm 7 with a thin end 8, Figs. 2 and 3 beyond a rounded shoulder 6. The thin end 8 can always move freely under the edge of a large record e above a small lowermost record d until the shoulder 6 abuts the edge of the record e. Then the wedging action occurs lifting the arm 7 and the records above it until the arm 7 is raised just above the lowermost record d and can slide in over that record as shown in Fig. 1. Continued movement of the arms then cause arm 4 to release the lowermost record d; and on the return stroke of the arms, the arm 7 releases the stack and allows record e to fall on and be supported by arm 4 in readinesss for the next operation. As shown the arm 4 is fast on the rotatable post 5. The arm 7 is integral with a sleeve 12 loose on an extension 14 of the post 5 and is urged down by a spring 11. Balls 9, 10 are situated between the arm 4, 7 and co-operate to produce the wedging action. In addition an abutment 16 is provided to transmit the drive to the arm 7 when the balls are not in engagement.
