Abstract

454,337. Magazine gramophones. COMPARE, A., 26, Alandale Drive, Pinner, Middlesex. April 18, 1935, No. 31200. Divided out of 439,106. [Class 40 (ii)] Relates to magazine gramophones of the kind in which the records are supported above the turntable by a vertical post from which they are dropped in turn on to the turntable, for playing. According to the invention, the magazine post embodies two parts, formed respectively with a shoulder and an abutment, and is so mounted that one part may be moved relatively to the other, first so that the post constitutes a smooth spindle on which a stack of records may easily be threaded, and then into a position in which the shoulder forms a support under the lowest record and in which the abutment is located just above the top surface of that record ; release of the lowest record from the post is effected by moving it laterally, whilst the abutment prevents lateral movement of the other records. The construction and operation of a machine embodying the invention are described in Specification 439,106. In a modified form of record-release mechanism, shown in the Figure instead of an offset base being provided on the end of a movable bell-crank lever, a base 113 is carried by fixed arms 312, disposed between the arms 318 of a member 218. A central finger 118, as well as the part 218, is pivoted at 112, and when the members 118, 218 rock into their normal position, as shown, the base 113, which lies above the turntable spindle 110, provides the shoulder 114. When the part 218 is moved, against the action of a spring 316, so as to align the arms 318 with the base 113, the finger 118 is similarly moved by an extension 218 of the member 218 so that the assemblage then forms a smooth post on which the records can easily be threaded. The top record of a pile thus located on the post acts upon a crank (not shown), which turns a spindle 323 into the position shown in the Figure, allowing the spring 316 to move the members of the post into position for retaining the records.
