552,568. Brakes. DUNCAN, W. O. (Bendix Aviation Corporation). Oct. 6, 1941, No. 12889. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 20, 1942.] [Class 103 (i)] Expanding means for the shoes. of an internal expanding brake comprises a lever 138 extending through the back plate 120 and engaging the web 114 of one shoe at its inner end and at an intermediate point, a thrust link 150 that engages the web 112 of the other shoe. Acutating means for the lever may comprise a cable 132. The link 150 is of L-section the vertical flange 150b serving to close the opening 144 for the lever in the backplate while the horizontal flange rests upon the release spring 126 to support the link. Inward lateral movement of the link is prevented by engagement of the part 151c of the link with the lever. Another construction is shown in which the form of the link is somewhat different. The device is shown as alternative mechanical applying means for a brake provided with a hydraulic cylinder as the normal applying means.
