Abstract

552,447. Emulsions; proofing-compositions. GEIGY COLOUR CO., Ltd., and FERGUSSON, H. T. Oct. 1, 1941, No. 12674. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Group VIII] A water- and rot-proofing emulsion is made by dispersing an oily substance in an aqueous solution of a salt of an organic salt-forming compound, adding a water-soluble salt which will react with this compound to produce an insoluble rot-proofing agent, and subjecting the dispersion to emulsification. Glue or gelatine may be added before dispersing, and a watersoluble aluminium salt may be finally added to the emulsion. The oily substance is preferably a fat or wax; the organic salt-forming compound is preferably naphthenic acid, but stearic or oleic acid or cresol may be used. The precipitating agent may be a salt of copper or zinc. Specifications 471,415, [Group VII], and 491,501 are referred to.
