Abstract

552,339. Ships. MARSHALL, J. H. Dec. 5, 1941, No. 15685. [Classes 113 (i) and 113 (ii)] To prevent the sinking of ships if damaged by torpedoes, or collision a number of compartments are formed inside the hull by welding or otherwise securing plates e, f, g to the rib girders c, and the compartments are filled with compressed air through valves i; and are fitted with relief valves which open at pressures of 100 to 500 lbs. per square inch and by means of which the pressures in the various compartments may be equalized if desired.
