551,819. Preserving rubber. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. June 21, 1940, No. 10710. Convention date Aug. 12, 1940. [Class 70] Rubber and synthetic rubber stocks are given age-resisting properties by incorporating therein metal salts of dialkyl dihydroxy diaryl sulphides or polysulphides or polymers thereof, or their selenium or tellurium analogues. The metals are those of Groups II to VI of the Periodic table, preferably aluminium, barium, calcium, chromium, magnesium, lead, tin, zinc or cadmium. Salts of alkyl phenol thioethers, alkyl phenol disulphides, polymers of alkyl phenol sulphides, and alkyl hydroxy thianthrenes, where alkyl contains 4 to 8 carbon atoms, e.g. zinc salt of the thioether of tertiary amyl phenol, calcium salt of diamyl dihydroxy diphenyl sulphide, thioether of tertiary amyl magnesium phenolate, may be used.
