Abstract

Lubricants for use in or on machinery exposed to atomic radiation comprise a mineral oil and a minor amount of a compound of formula <FORM:1046267/C4-C5/1> where R is a C1-5 alkyl radical, R1 is a C1-5 alkyl radical or an ethoxy C1-5 alkyl radical, and n is 1 or 2, typical compounds being tetrabutyl thiuram disulphide and asym. diethyl di(ethoxyethyl) thiuram sulphide. Such compounds reduce the tendency of the mineral oil to increase in viscosity under the influence of atomic radiation.
