Abstract

A lubricating oil composition consists essentially of a lubricating oil base containing dissolved therein 0.1-6% by weight of an additive having the general formula <FORM:1011560/C4-C5/1> where R1 and R11 are organic radicals and n = 0 or 1. In an example di-(tert-butyl)-sulphoxide is added to a petroleum lubricating oil.ALSO:Di-(tert-butyl) sulphoxide is prepared by oxidizing di-(tert-butyl) sulphide with tert-butyl hydroperoxide.
