Abstract

A lubricating oil composition consists essentially of a lubricating oil base having dissolved therein 0.1-6% by weight of an additive having the general formula R1-S(O)n-S-R11 where R1 and R11 are organic radicals (e.g. alkyl or phenyl groups) and n is 1 or 2. In examples, the oil is a petroleum lubricating oil and the additive is either n-butyl (n-butane thiolsulphinate) or phenyl (benzene thiolsulphinate).
